Never ever share your passwords with anyone.

Set strong passwords/ biometric permission to access your mobile phones/ laptops/ internet banking websites etc. Keep your password and PIN/ MPIN/ OTP secret and don’t share them with anyone. Always change the PIN password assigned by the bank while access Internet Banking/ Mobile Banking Services for the first time and remember to change it periodically. Be sure the Web page you are viewing offers encryption of your data. Often you will see a lock symbol in the lower right-hand corner of your browser window and/or the Web address of the page you are viewing will begin with "https://...” The "s" indicates "secured" and means the Web page uses encryption. Never click on links to open our bank website, always type the URL in the browser.

Please see that the sender is known to you. Do not click on the links or attachments which you are not intended to and are from the sources not known to you. Block the message, if you feel that it is a phishing mail.

Be cautious about what you receive or read online. Phishing is a fraudulent attempt, usually made through email, phone calls, SMS etc., seeking your personal and confidential information. Do not get lured by phishing emails /calls promising lottery/refunds/points.

Keep your mobile phones/ laptops and other devices safe and optimized all the times by updating and patching the system software, browsers, Antivirus and other critical software’s.

Computer Security

Operating System (OS) of the computer system should be upgraded promptly. Newer version of the operating system would help you make your system more secure. Latest version of Browsers should be used to connect to Internet as they afford higher level of security.

Installing personal firewall on your computer system will provide added level of security. Installation of Antivirus software’s on your computer system will reduce the risk of virus attacks. Continuous updating of these antivirus software’s will offer more resistance to newer viruses.

You can eliminate potential risk caused through pop-up windows by removing any spyware or adware installed on your computer, using spyware/adware removal software’s.

Downloads from unfamiliar sources may contain hidden programs or viruses that can compromise your computer's security. When not in use, disconnect your computer system from the Internet to avoid unwanted access to the information on your system. Even if you have a firewall installed, this is a step you can take to help protect yourself.

If you are using a sensitive application like Banking please logout completely after use by following the under noted steps in that order. Logout the Application by clicking on logout button. Close all the Browser windows. Install a screen saver with password protection.

Tips to protect yourself from fraudsters/ Scams

Fraudsters call you using internet by modifying the caller ID and impersonate as SBI staff. They then try to seek your card numbers, PIN, account number, online banking password and other account related information giving various reasons such as updating their system records, etc. To mislead you.

You may also receive a fake call from unknown number stating that you have won a lottery or a cash prize on your card or phone number. The fraudster then will ask your card number and Pin for confirmation, which then will be used for conducting fraud. The fraudster may also ask you to transfer some amount of money towards processing fee to claim the prize and you will never hear from him thereafter.

Establish the identity and motive of the caller before engaging in further conversation with the unknown caller

Be wary of any suspicious calls seeking your personal sensitive information

Do not disclose or reveal any personal sensitive information related to your banking services such as card numbers, PIN or passwords etc. SBI will never ask you for any personal sensitive information

Always check your account balances and monitor your account statements to identify any unauthorized transactions

Report any SMS alert received for an unauthorized transaction not done by you

What do you do if you have fallen victim of a fraud?
Report the incident immediately to SBI even if you have already disclosed personal sensitive information relating to your card, account or online banking.


State Bank of India or any of its representatives never sends you email/ SMS or calls you over phone to get your personal and confidential information such as user ID/ password/ OTP/SMS/ Debit or Credit Card Numbers/ CVV etc. Any such e-mail/SMS/ phone call may be an attempt to fraudulently withdraw money from your account through online banking. Never respond to such email/SMS/phone call. Please report immediately to report.phishing@sbi.co.in if you receive any such email/SMS/phone call. Immediately change your internet banking/Mobile App/ ATM Card passwords if you have accidentally revealed your credentials.
